Andy Carlson, a fly fishing guide on the Bitterroot River in Montana originated the Purple Haze fly pattern. It closely resembles a Parachute Adams with a purple body. This has been a very effective pattern in Montana and has become a popular dry fly in general. It is used to match Blue Wing Olives, Mahogany Duns, Green Drakes, and Tricos.

Sea Habit, Sardine

Sea Habit, Sardine

Your price: $3.45

The Sardine Sea Habit does not come packed in a can filled with its own juices. This big and brawny batfish imitator first showed what it could do on big bluewater fish like sailfish and marlin off of Cabo. It is a favorite Roosterfish fly and is versatile enough to catch nearly anything that swims and eats little fishies.

Wooly Bugger, Bead Head, Purple

Wooly Bugger, Bead Head, Purple

Your price: $1.85

The Wooly Bugger is perhaps the most versatile fly in fly fishing. The Bead Head, Purple can imitate or at least suggest any number of trout foods. Every angler should dedicate one or multiple fly boxes to the several colors and variations of this fly. The unweighted version is especially useful in stillwater situations where sinking lines are used and the bead head varieties can be used where a weighted fly is called for.
